Coral blood orange carrot smoothie with citrus wedges and grated carrot

Blood orange gives this easy smoothie its jewel-like color and lively acidity. Frozen mango rounds out the carrot, while yogurt makes the texture creamy enough for breakfast or a mid-afternoon glass.

Ingredients

  • 2 blood oranges, peeled and seeded
  • 1 medium carrot, chopped
  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup cold water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 4 ice cubes

Method

  1. 1. Add the oranges, carrot, mango, yogurt, water and lemon juice to a high-speed blender.
  2. 2. Blend until the carrot is completely smooth, pausing to scrape the sides if needed.
  3. 3. Add the ice and blend again until chilled. Pour into glasses and serve immediately.

Good to know

Blood oranges vary in acidity and color, so taste before adding the lemon juice and adjust it to suit the fruit.

Questions, answered.

Do I need to juice the oranges first?

No. Peel and seed the oranges, then blend the segments with the other ingredients for more body and less washing up.

How can I make the carrot blend smoother?

Chop it small and use a powerful blender. For a very silky drink, steam the carrot briefly, cool it, and then blend.
