Rolled oats give this blueberry smoothie a little more staying power and a pleasantly soft, almost milkshake-like texture. Cinnamon and vanilla make the berries taste rounder without adding much work.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup unsweetened oat milk
  • ⅓ cup rolled oats
  • 1 small banana, sliced
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup

Method

  1. 1. Put the oats and oat milk in the blender and let them stand for 2 minutes.
  2. 2. Add the blueberries, yogurt, banana, cinnamon, vanilla and maple syrup.
  3. 3. Blend until smooth and thick, then pour immediately.

Substitutions

  • Use kefir or plain yogurt in place of Greek yogurt.
  • Replace oat milk with unsweetened soy milk.
  • Use date syrup instead of maple syrup.

Good to know

Letting the oats sit briefly in the milk keeps the finished smoothie creamy rather than grainy.

Questions, answered.

Do the oats need to be cooked?

No. A short soak in the blender liquid softens rolled oats enough for a smooth drink.

How can I make it thicker?

Add another ¼ cup frozen blueberries or half a frozen banana, then blend again.
