Tahini is an unexpected but lovely partner for raspberries: nutty, slightly bitter and able to make a simple smoothie feel substantial. Banana smooths the texture and softens the berry tang.
Ingredients
- 1½ cups frozen raspberries
- 1 frozen banana, sliced
- 1 cup unsweetened oat milk
- 1½ tablespoons tahini
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
Method
- 1. Add the oat milk, raspberries, banana, tahini, cinnamon, maple syrup and chia seeds to a blender.
- 2. Blend until creamy, about 60 seconds, scraping once if needed.
- 3. Let stand for 2 minutes to thicken slightly, then pour and serve.

Substitutions
- Use sunflower seed butter for a tahini-free version.
- Frozen strawberries can replace half the raspberries.
- Use hemp hearts instead of chia seeds.
Good to know
Stir tahini thoroughly before measuring so the smooth sesame solids and oil are evenly distributed.
Questions, answered.
Why is my tahini bitter?
Tahini varies by brand. Add another teaspoon of maple syrup or use a fresher, well-stirred jar for a gentler finish.
Will raspberry seeds remain?
Some seeds will remain in a standard blender. Strain the smoothie through a fine sieve if you prefer it completely smooth.
