Pomegranate arils and orange create a dramatic ruby drink with enough sweetness to balance fresh ginger. Use a juicer for clarity or blend and strain for a small-batch kitchen method.
Ingredients
- 1½ cups pomegranate arils
- 3 oranges, peeled and quartered
- 1-inch piece fresh ginger
- ½ lemon, peeled
- ½ cup cold water, only if blending
- Ice, for serving
Method
- 1. Pass pomegranate arils, oranges, ginger and lemon through a juicer, or blend them with water until smooth.
- 2. If blended, strain through a fine sieve, pressing gently to extract the liquid.
- 3. Pour over ice and serve immediately, or chill in a sealed jar for up to 24 hours.

Good to know
Wear an apron when working with pomegranate; its ruby juice can stain light fabric and porous cutting boards.
Questions, answered.
How do I avoid bitter pomegranate juice?
Blend briefly and strain without crushing the pale inner membranes. The arils themselves should provide the cleanest flavor.
Can I make this without a juicer?
Yes. A high-speed blender and fine sieve work well; add only enough water to keep the blades moving.
