Ruby grapefruit has enough character to carry a whole drink, but orange and maple soften its bitter edge. Mint makes the finish cool and aromatic.
Ingredients
- 2 ruby grapefruits, peeled
- 1 orange, peeled
- 8 mint leaves
- 1 teaspoon maple syrup
- 1 cup ice
Method
- 1. Juice the grapefruit and orange, or blend them with the mint and strain.
- 2. Stir in maple syrup and taste; add another ½ teaspoon if the fruit is especially tart.
- 3. Pour over ice and finish with mint.

Taste the citrus before sweetening. Grapefruit varies widely in bitterness and natural sweetness.
Questions, answered.
How can I make grapefruit juice less bitter?
Remove as much white pith as possible and balance it with orange juice or a small amount of maple syrup.
Can I serve this warm?
It is best cold; warming grapefruit juice can make its bitter notes more pronounced.
